A while ago, I met an elderly lady on a plane — a vibrant and energetic grandmother. The flight attendant gently held her hand and slowly guided her to the empty seat next to me, kindly reassuring her that once we landed, staff would assist her in disembarking, collecting her luggage, and helping her through customs. I noticed she was traveling alone, so I struck up a conversation with her. She told me that she was nearly 90 years old but still often flew alone for 3.5 hours to visit her children who lived abroad. I was deeply impressed by her independence and strong will.

To enhance the life quality of patients with sleep disordered breathing, researchers and clinicians led by an SUTD scientist used computational modelling to design custom-fit masks that have improved positive airway pressure treatment.

“The foreign workers, foreign talents, foreign spouses, international students and foreign domestic workers live in Singapore. They may be here for one year, two years, five years, and some even close to a decade, if not more. They are part of Singapore’s evolving social fabric and culture as the city state develops,” said Dr Felicity Chan, senior research fellow at the Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities.

Only 64 per cent of Singaporean students feel confident in their creativity, compared to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) average of 73 per cent. Even more striking is that less than half believe they can craft compelling stories or invent new things.
