RoboRoarZ Singapore is a unique design-centred reconfigurable robotics competition open to students aged 10 and above. Students from close to 40 local and overseas schools competed in this year’s run which was held at SUTD from 23 to 24 January.

Four smart robots from SUTD made their way to Pasir Ris Park today to help their human teammates clean the beach – together with Guest-of-Honour, Mr Baey Yam Keng, Senior Parliamentary Secretary (SPS) for the Minister of Sustainability and the Environment as well as the Ministry of Transport, and the SUTD community comprising students, faculty and staff.

SUTD’s pivot to AI is premised on the principle that AI should no longer be viewed as a technological tool to be used by humans, but as part of a human-machine team, working together hand-in-hand and leveraging on each other’s strengths to find innovative solutions for real-world problems.

Mr Khoo Peng Beng, who is known for transformational work like the Pinnacle@Duxton, will join the Singapore University of Technology and Design as Head of the Architecture and Sustainable Design (ASD) Pillar on 1 January 2025.

In a pivotal move for Singapore’s security industry, Certis and the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) have joined forces to enhance AI literacy and digital mastery, equipping security professionals and frontline personnel with the latest digital skills required to excel in today’s fast-evolving work environment.

SERIC, launched at the Singapore-Tianjin Economic and Trade Council Meeting today by Singapore’s Minister for National Development Mr Desmond Lee and Tianjin Mayor Mr Zhang Gong, is set up to drive sustainable urban development solutions in support of the Eco-City’s vision of a greener future.

The donation, to be managed by the Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities at SUTD, will support SUTD in deepening research and innovation capabilities in sustainable, innovative cities; as well as research and educational initiatives related to the SUTD Eco-City Research & Innovation Centre (SERIC).

Called STEAMunity, this community-centric programme is supported by MOE and National Research Foundation. It hopes to inspire students to solve actual community problems by combining Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) with Design and Artificial Intelligence (DAI).

Launched by SUTD, NTUC, AiSP and TTAB, the new Design x AI x Tech (Cybersecurity) Certification Programme is targeted at PMETs looking to transition into the cybersecurity industry despite not having an IT background. It is part of a broader national effort to promote lifelong learning and upskilling the workforce.

President Tharman, who is SUTD’s third Chancellor, was elected as Singapore’s President in September 2023. He served in politics for 22 years before resigning to contest in the Presidential Election.
