Mr and Mrs Tan Tuck Meng – SUTD Scholarship
The Mr and Mrs Tan Tuck Meng – SUTD Scholarship is available to outstanding undergraduates pursuing their studies at SUTD.
Eligibility
- All nationalities
- Applying for admission to SUTD’s undergraduate degree programme
- Demonstrated financial need with monthly Per Capita Income of S$2,000 and below
- Have good records of service and contribution to the University and/or the community at large
- Uphold strong values (passion, integrity and moral character)
Benefits of award
- The Scholarship is valued at S$15,000 per academic year for up to 4 academic years and shall be applied towards the payment of tuition fees and study-related expenses.
- There is no bond to be fulfilled towards the donor.
Terms & conditions
- The recipient may not, without the approval of the University, hold concurrently any other scholarships or grants.
- If the recipient decides to terminate the scholarship prematurely, SUTD reserves the right to impose a repayment on a case-by-case basis.
- The recipient is required to achieve a pass for Term 1 and to maintain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 over 5.0 from Term 2 onwards. Academic performance will be reviewed every term. The Scholarship may be withdrawn at any time if, in the opinion of SUTD, the recipient’s academic progress or conduct is deemed unsatisfactory.
- The recipient must have taken up the Tuition Grant Scheme by the Singapore Government during enrolment. Read more on the Tuition Grant Scheme here.
- Recipients are required to complete at least 20 hours of service to the University. They may take on the role of student ambassador, or any other similar role, representing SUTD to give publicity talks, to receive guests, etc., as and when called upon to do so.
Application procedure
- Interested incoming students should apply for the Scholarship when applying for admission to SUTD.
- Existing students who are eligible will be invited to apply via MyPortal.
- Shortlisted applicants will be notified in due course.
- Late and incomplete submissions will not be processed.
- Scholarships are awarded on the basis of competition among eligible applicants.
- SUTD reserves the right not to award any Scholarship if there are no candidates of sufficient merit. The decision of the selection committee is final. Enquiries or disputes surrounding its decisions will not be entertained.

Mr Tan Tuck Meng (1916 – 1997) was a Singapore businessman who started a wholesale business in rice, sugar and essentials. A key value he taught his family is never to succumb to temptations and greed. He believed that a succeeding generation must be better educated than the incumbent. This scholarship is established in his memory. |
