DAI Minor Programme (for Intake AY2024 and onwards)

Students are strongly encouraged to take 10.020 Data Driven World to prepare for DAI Minor.

Students in the DAI Minor Programme will have a focus on AI related technology and applications. They are required to take the following courses.

1 course on applications of AI-technology from selected CSD, DAI, EPD, or ESD courses. Students are required to select the course from the following course list.

1 course on DAI Studio, DAI course, or HASS Human-Centred Design course. Students are required to select the course from the following course list.

Planning for minor study
  • This minor is open only to eligible SUTD undergraduate students matriculated from AY2024 onwards.
  • Students interested in pursuing a minor or minors are required to meet an academic advisor to formulate a study plan. Students who are deemed to be unable to complete the coursework by Term 8 should not embark on a minor programme. Subsequently, students are required to track their own progress towards completing the minor programme(s) as per the study plan formulated.
  • Enrolment into all courses is subject to availability.
  • The minor will be accorded upon successful completion of the required subjects by Term 8. No extension beyond Term 8 is allowed.
  • Both the major and minor requirements must be completed within the normal candidature of the undergraduate programme, i.e. 8 terms.
Eligibility
  • Students need to pass all twelve (12) Freshmore subjects at the point of declaring their intention to pursue a minor.
  • Students who are deemed to be unable to complete the coursework by Term 8 will not be allowed to pursue the minor.
Declaration and withdrawal
  • Students must formally declare their intention to enrol in the Minor in Design and Artificial Intelligence 2 weeks before start of Term 5 via MyPortal. Students should note that the add/drop period and related policies apply to minor-related and additional fifth subject(s) (if any).
  • Students who declared earlier but decide not to continue pursuing the minor programme(s), or decide to pursue a different minor, are required to formally inform (in writing) OSA and the pillars/clusters involved. Only requests before the end of Term 5’s add/drop period* will be entertained and such requests will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. (*Not applicable for students from the AY2023 cohort.)
  • Should the student not complete or withdraw from the minor programme, the student’s pillar/cluster may, at its sole discretion, allow the additional fifth subject(s) (if any) successfully completed in the previous term(s) for the discontinued minor to be counted towards the major requirements. Grades earned to complete a minor shall still be computed towards the GPA after the student’s withdrawal.
Grading requirements
  • Students must complete all required courses.
  • Subjects taken to complete the minor shall be graded and computed into the GPA.
  • Unless a minimum passing grade is stated by ISTD, the minimum passing grade shall be a D. Non-letter grading options cannot be used for the minor.
  • Credits from successfully completed academic units from external institutions can be recognised towards fulfilling the minor requirements upon approval from ISTD.
